How far in advance should I book my campervan?

Escape is typically one of the first companies to fill up. Even in the low season, our vehicles are in high demand. It is advisable to book your van prior to booking airline tickets. For the high season months (March 15 – Oct 15), it is advisable to book a few months ahead and in the low season at least a couple of weeks. If you are not that organized, contact us anyway as things can always change at the last minute and you could get lucky!

Because of our flexible cancellation policy, it is advisable to book as early as possible to ensure availability and lock in the lowest rates.

How do I secure a campervan booking with Escape?

You may use our website or call our reservations department at 877-270-8267 opt 1 (US) or +1 (310) 672-9909 opt 1 (international) to get a quote or a booking request. There is a link inside the quote that says “Click here to turn your quote into a booking request.” The link is valid for 5 days. Once you submit your booking request, our reservations team will get back to you within 24 hours as to whether or not it has been approved. Your booking is not confirmed until our reservations team has approved it. Do not book any flights or campgrounds until your request has been confirmed.

Once it has been approved, Escape will charge a $200 USD deposit to reserve your campervan. The balance is not payable until you collect your campervan (many companies require full payment 4 weeks prior to travel). Read our full Rental Requirements for more information on booking a campervan. 

Are there any hidden charges in your rates?

In America, most campervan rental companies often offer a cheap lead in price and then add on all the extras such as mileage charges, compulsory insurance, living equipment, starter packs, extra drivers etc. If you find a cheaper quote than ours, we advise that you research exactly what is being offered. The unwary can get caught by grabbing the cheap quote from another company only to find they end up paying over twice what they had initially budgeted on.

With that said, we pride ourselves on our No Hidden Costs policy, which includes the following in the daily rate:

  • Minimum liability insurance (coverage levels vary by state)
  • 100 free miles per day (this comes out to be $20-$30 per day in savings)
  • No extra driver fees
  • No credit card fees
  • No additional fees for drivers under the age of 25
  • All necessary kitchen, camping, and living equipment
  • 24-hour Roadside Assistance

What you may choose to pay more for:

  • Extra mileage beyond the 100/day FREE (view mileage rates)
  • Extra accessories
  • SLI and/or CDW insurance (these are encouraged, but not required)
  • One-way fees
  • Pet cleaning fees
  • Gas
  • Food and basic groceries for personal comforts
  • Toll roads
  • Campground fees

What options do I have for extra or unlimited miles?

  1. Stick with the standard mileage plan included FREE with your rental at 100/day (this is averaged over your entire trip). The cost of additional miles is $0.25 per mile ($0.35 per mile for the Indie Camper).
  2. If you rent for 7 days or longer, you can purchase an additional 100 miles/day for $15/day (giving you a total of 200 miles/day averaged over your trip). The cost of additional miles is $0.25 per mile ($0.35 per mile for the Indie Camper).
  3. For trips 14 days or longer, you can purchase unlimited miles for only $25 per day ($35 per day for the Indie Camper).

Note that miles packages must be chosen at pick up and cannot be amended once you’ve left the depot.

Can I request a certain van design before pick up?

As campervans are coming in and out of our depots from all over the country every day, it is extremely difficult for us to guarantee a certain van design prior to pick up–especially during the busy summer season. While we cannot reserve certain van designs in advance, you are welcome to mention which style of artwork you prefer when you book, and you can choose from the vans that have been cleaned, serviced, and are ready to go on the lot at pick up.

All artwork is happy, creative and friendly. We do not have political, aggressive, or offensive designs. We will do everything we can to get you in a van you love!
