Escape Camper Vans rocks! This is our 2nd year booking a van and we plan on doing it again next year. The vans are great, the customer service and communication rocks, Forest at the JC location was a pleasure. Hope the price doesn't increase again 🤞

This was our 3rd time using Escape Camper Vans but first time at the New York/New Jersey location. The staff was super friendly and helpful during the pick up and drop off process. They were clear about all of the options and information needed about the vehicle rental. We rented a Maverick and it was just as expected - some of the vans are on the older side but we had no issues with the van or any of the features.Would highly recommend Escape to anyone looking for a semi built out van life van for a quick adventure!

We hired a Maverick from New Jersey in August and had a great two weeks driving to Catskills, Niagara, 1000 Islands, Lake George, Cape Cod, Mystic and back. The van's small enough to fit in normal parking places and camping sites but is large enough to fit all your gear and give a good view of the road ahead. You also get a few looks, smiles and questions because of the paint designs.

We booked our trip trusting the Google reviews but our experience turned out to be totally different and not satisfactory at all. Aside from different "small" issues like the driver's door that was not closing properly, the windshield wipers that needed to be replaced, the kitchen kit (extra) that was not complete and the delay at pick-up, we mostly suffered from the fact that water was dropping inside the van from different places and on the mattress. The same happened with the roof tent, when it rained mattress was wet. We mentioned this to the support which was very reactive but couldn't offer any solution other than visiting a repair shop ourselves and possibly immobilizing the family for a full day or more. Switching vehicle was not possible after support contacted the local office. They offered to foresee a compensation upon drop-off. At drop-off the employee from the local office was not aware of the compensation and there was no senior person available to take a decision as it was Sunday. We had to leave as we had booked tickets that day to travel further, they told us we would be contacted by the local manager the day after. That was done after we had reached once again to the support. The local manager minimized our issues and closed the discussion.update: we were contacted by the corporate support after we returned back to Europe and they offered additional compensation. Of course we would have preferred no issue but at the corporate level they assumed their responsibility in a proper manner.

Everything worked and was very simple to operate. Staff was friendly and helpful. And the whole check in and check out process was nothing like a normal vehicle rental - no waiting, very smooth, relaxed and without surprises. We will do this again! Only regrets are the extras we didn't order but should have (rooftop tent and camping chairs).

The NY office was left with an obviously newer employee on his own and send out vans on the day we picked up. We were able to resolve all issues by calling the main line on the phone. The van was as expected. It was clean and with a few reminders to the employee we left with everything we rented. 14 days into our 15 day trip we got a flat tire. The roadside department was awesome. We were swamped for a spare and sent back out to finish our last 250 miles! When I returned our van to the Seattle office they were well organized and the return was done with ease.Overall the trip went as expected!

We booked an escape camper van for our national park trip starting in Vegas and ending in Denver. I love that we were able to drop off at a different location, it made the planning so much easier! The van was equipped with exactly what was listed, and it was freshly cleaned when we picked it up. We LOVED our van, and it made our camping experience so much moreEnjoyable.

Escape Camper Vans is great to work with. We recently rented from their new Salt Lake City location and was very pleased with the service and communication. Very close to the airport. Probably a 15.00 Uber ride. Picking up the van was so easy and dropping off was just as easy. I cannot remember the person's name but he was very helpful. The van was clean when we received it. This is great to rent if you want to travel and explore without having to make reservations at a hotel, or put up a tent every night. We’ve rented from Escape two years ago out of Denver and also had a great experience. You can rent the van and also rent additional supplies such as tents, kitchen kit, chairs…etc….I would highly recommend using Escape Camper Vans and can’t wait for my next adventure with them!

How much does it cost to rent a camper in New York?

On average, you can expect it to cost $70-150 per day to rent a camper in New York. You may also want to plan ahead when you’re renting since New York has so much traffic, so rental options may be more limited throughout the year. Prices can increase when there is limited availability or during big tourist times like the holidays.

You’ll also want to be mindful of other costs when renting a camper van. Most companies have mileage fees of $0.30-0.40 cents for every mile you drive. Plus, you’ll need to budget for gas, which can be costly in New York, with it being one of the highest average costs per gallon on the East Coast.

How old do you have to be to rent a camper in New York?

You need to be at least 21 years old to rent a camper in New York. Some companies may have higher age requirements, up to a minimum of 25 years old, depending on their policies. Insurance expenses are the reason for the higher minimum age requirements to rent a camper. Renting camper vans has high liability involved and younger drivers have much higher insurance premiums, so renting to them would be unprofitable in most cases.

Also, watch out for extra fees. Drivers over the age of 21 but under 25 still have relatively high insurance premiums, so some companies may charge extra security expenses or void insurance coverage if the driver doesn’t meet a certain age threshold. Always make sure you review rental agreements before reserving a camper van in New York to ensure you get a good deal.
