Fall is finally here! And with it comes an amazing array of colors that remind us of a beauty that only nature can provide. If you want to know where the best places to see fall colors in Colorado, read on.
As the summer winds down and we move into colder weather, shorter days and busier schedules, most of us would be tempted to think that road-tripping season is done for the year. But don’t be fooled! It’s not true! There are plenty of great fall road trips to take in Colorado. Be sure to include these routes and destinations in your itinerary. Aspen
Aspen is the first place we want to mention as one of the best places to see fall colors in Colorado. After all, the classic “fall colors” destination in Colorado. The mountain town’s namesake trees turn into a beautiful sea of yellow. For the best views, head to the Maroon Bells Wilderness.
Kenosha Pass
At only a little over an hour from Denver, this 10,000-foot summit is one of the best and most accessible places to view fall colors. Due to its popularity, go on weekends or early in the morning to avoid traffic congestion.
Breckenridge
This cute town in Summit County has plenty of short, easy trails which makes it one of the best places to see fall colors in Colorado. After your hike, enjoy a slice at the historic and delicious Fatty’s Pizza.
Williams Fork Reservoir
For those in the vicinity of Rocky Mountain National Park, this reservoir to the park’s west is a great place to camp for the night, do some hiking and take in the scenery. It is also off the beaten path of the Front Range and I-70, so you can enjoy some peace and quiet in nature.
Peak to Peak Highway
Driving along this stretch between Boulder and Blackhawk is sure to get you in the mood for fall. Stop partway through the drive and visit the fun ski town of Nederland.
Trail Ridge Road
This one is not for the faint of heart. Trail Ridge Road in Rocky Mountain National Park takes you to the very top of the park and the views are expansive. This one gets points for seeing the fall colors from a new perspective (and height!).
Boreas Pass
Head up to Boreas Mountain near the South Park valley area to enjoy the season in one of the more historic parts of the state. Nature and history collide when doing this drive and ending in Fairplay.
