By Allison Fitts & Lillian Robinson

Whether you know about it from that one Chainsmokers song or for its granola reputation, Boulder, Colorado lives up to its status as a classic Colorado town. Colorado is known for its ample outdoor opportunities, delicious food, and overall quirkiness, and Boulder offers a great mix of all three. Check it out!

Getting There:

Boulder, CO, is a 45-minute drive from Escape’s Denver campervans rental location.

Outdoor Adventures

  • Hiking to Royal Arch – This 3-mile round trip hike takes you to the top of Boulder. Walk among the town’s iconic “Flatirons” in the Chautauqua foothills. Enjoy an amazing ending view through an arch-like rock formation.
  • Rocky Mountain National Park – Though it is a bit of a drive, Rocky Mountain National Park is a great day trip from Boulder. Enjoy the ample wildlife viewing opportunities, scenic hikes and drives, and the cute little gateway town of Estes Park.
  • Boulder Reservoir – In the summer, this is the spot to be. Where else can you paddleboard, raft or kayak with a killer view of the Rockies? Bring your own water sports equipment or rent it there!

Quaint Cuisine

  • The Sink – The college town spot is located on “The Hill” near the University of Colorado’s campus. Join the ranks of Guy Fieri, Anthony Bourdain and even Barack Obama, and come to grab a bite at this dive. We highly recommend the fried mac ‘n cheese!
  • Zoe Ma Ma – This delicious Pearl Street spot (and it’s Denver outpost) serve up terrific Chinese street food. The Cool Noodle and the dumplings are not to be missed. If you are lucky, Ma Ma herself might even be serving up your order.
  • Oak – For a bit more upscale feel, head to the wonderfully unique Oak. The offer a seasonally-changing menu with local offerings that can’t be beat.

Altitude Oddities

  • Pearl Street Buskers – The pedestrian-friendly Pearl Street Mall is always home to activity. All of the bustlings can momentarily come to a halt to watch the street performers.
  • Boulder Teahouse – This ornate spot is not only a delightful place to enjoy a cup of tea, but it is also a gift to the City of Boulder from its sister city, Dushanbe, Tajikistan. It is both impressive and adorable at the same time.
  • The Boulder Star – From November through January, a 70+ year tradition lives on the face of Flagstaff Mountain: The Boulder Star. Enjoy the beauty of the giant light up star overlooking the town from below, or hike or drive up to it. It is a classic winter site in Boulder.
