Thinking about checking off another box on your National Parks tour? Spring is officially here, which means warmer temperatures and sunshine are finally on their way. While there is fun to be had in all seasons, by far the best time to visit Acadia National Park is in the Summer and Fall. And it’s just a day’s drive from Escape’s New York camper van rental site. So get ready to hit the road – and don’t miss these Acadia favorites along the way!
Thinking about heading up to Acadia National Park March 21-23. Will I be able to do much hiking and site seeing at this time in the year?
As long as you don’t mind foggy mornings, mud and temperatures that range from the mid-20s to mid-50s, a springtime visit can be a great time to see the park and avoid the summer crowds. Pack your rain gear!
Are the roads safe? Scared of cliffs if no guardrails. Thanks
There are some size restrictions on vehicles (mainly larger RVs), but you should be good to go in a campervan! Just take it slow 🙂
going for the first time and staying nearby. love parks but not terribly in shape for big hikes. Which hotels are closest to park? We are going Oct 6-12 Hope there is alot of color to see!!!
How exciting! There are no hotels in Acadia National Park, but the small towns near the park offer a wide range of places to stay. Check out Bar Harbor, Route 3 (the road that leads to Bar Harbor from the mainland), and the smaller towns of Southwest Harbor, Northeast Harbor, and Bass Harbor.
Hi! Thanks for those cues! Do you think it is possible to do the Park Loop Road by bike (road bike)? Or it might be too dangerous to share the road with the cars / campers vans ? Thanks!
According to the National Park Service, “The Park Loop Road offers scenic views, but it is winding and narrow and may be congested with vehicles. The road up Cadillac Mountain is very steep and can be dangerous. Bicyclists should use caution when riding on any park road.”
Also, if you do bike up Cadillac Mt, you must have disc breaks on your bike for the way down. Its quite a climb if youre in shape. But regular breaks will burn out on the way down.
Hopefully when the park reopens I would like to take my small 16′ camper there. Can you recommend some campsites or boo docking areas when we can park overnight
Is there anywhere to see geysers in Acadia Park?
Yes! Look into Schoodic Point or Thunder Hole.
I have a fear of heights and was wondering driving up to Cadillac Mountains are too narrow. Are there trees that line the outer road. I want to take a sunrise and sunset picture from Cadillac Mountain and was wondering how long does it take to drive to the top.
I’m going the first week of April. I like this time bc I want to avoid crowds and don’t mind mild temps. Big with the road closed, can I still get to all the hikes? Like Beehive and Cadillac mountain.
