Meet the Escape Artists

Escape campervan artist Drew Brophy

Drew Brophy

Mural & Surfboard Artist

We first met Drew, Maria, and their son, Dylan when they traveled through New Zealand in an Escape Campervan in 2008. We kept in touch, and when we decided to launch in Los Angeles in 2009, Drew painted our very first campervan at our humble depot in Lawndale. Drew continues to create amazing pieces for Escape today. He has now been a professional surf artist for over 25 years.  He says of his profession, “It’s my job to make things look cool.”

An avid big wave surfer and world traveler, Brophy’s career exploded in the late 1990’s when he began painting his edgy artwork onto surfboards. Drew’s mission is “to inspire generations of people to live the life of their dreams.” He strives to be an example and show the world the good life through his artwork.

Escape campervan artist DJ Neff playing guitar

DJ Neff

Artist

A designer and visual artist living in Venice, California who practices at his studio CHALK. His background is in graffiti art, graphic design, art history, and advertising. While working at some of the worlds top agencies, he has had the pleasure of learning how to make brands famous from the very best in the business.

A huge believer in do-it-yourself, he loves the unfamiliar, figuring out how things work, taking them apart, studying and reassembling them. Most of his work brings in this inquisitive spirit in its exploration of techniques, materials, and concepts. When he’s not finding creative solutions to problems, he spends his time painting, biking, or somehow getting dirty outside.

Escape campervan artist Dan Tippet mural

Dan Tippet (DT)

Artist

Dan has been painting Escape Camper Vans since 2004 in New Zealand and is our resident artist there. When we decided to launch in Los Angeles in 2009, we lured Dan over to LA to help paint the first 20 Campervans with the implications of the bright lights, Hollywood lifestyle and getting out of Auckland for a while. He was unimpressed to be sleeping on a single airbed (with a slow leak) in our small house/office which was under the 405 Freeway in Lawndale (next door to Compton) and still hasn’t forgiven us. (We owe you one!) DT is a truly talented artist with a style that covers all genres.

Escape campervan artist Augustine Kofie

Augustine Kofie (Kofie)

Artist

We love Kofie’s art and hope to get him back every build to create some more masterpieces. Augustine Kofie has been active in the West Los Angeles graffiti scene since the mid-90s. From a deep interest in architecture, typography, 1960s iconography, contemporary music, and street culture, Kofie constructs barely perceptible dialogues that hold meaning for himself. Intense skill and technique reflect a certain reliance upon structure in the creative process. Kofie aims to create images that leap off the canvas at the viewer but at the same time invite him or her to join a conversation. His work has been exhibited across the US.
